Can You Keep a Car in a Storage Unit in Cairo?

Yes — and a private, covered unit beats leaving a car on the street for months. Here's what to know first.

We get this question a lot from people heading to the Gulf for work, or families who've inherited a second car nobody drives. The short answer is yes — with a bit of preparation.

Which size you need

A typical saloon or small hatchback fits in a 20m³ unit, often with room left for boxes, as you can see in the photo above. Larger SUVs depend on the model — send us the make and model and we'll check before you commit.

Why a unit rather than the street

A car left on a Cairo street for months collects dust, sun damage and the occasional scrape. A covered, locked unit inside a monitored warehouse keeps it out of the weather and out of sight.

How to prepare the car

  1. Wash it and clean the inside, so nothing attracts pests.
  2. Ask your mechanic about the battery — disconnecting it is common for long stays.
  3. Pump the tyres a little above normal.
  4. Leave only a modest amount of fuel; don't store extra fuel cans.
  5. Remove valuables and keep your documents with you.

Before you book

Check your insurance and licence situation for the period the car is off the road, and tell us when you reserve that it's a vehicle so we can plan the move-in.
